Coming to ceramics in later life, I’ve been particularly inspired by Japanese and Korean pottery.

My main interests are in developing forms, both functional and sculptural, and using ash glazes which I create myself. I also work with Shino and Oribe, Tenmoku and Celadon glazes. Each have their own effects and outcomes which makes working with them interesting and challenging at the same time.

I've also been inspired by the mark-making that is evident within various aspects of Japanes and Korean culture. Sometimes found in unexpected places it is interesting to study their evolution from their original roots.

I fire mainly in a reduction atmosphere in a gas kiln which brings out all that is best from these types of glazes and the claybody that it sits on. The outcomes are in the hands of 'the kiln gods' so there is no knowing how good a piece can be. The unexpected outcomes inspire future experimentation and is part of the journey.

I hope you enjoy these images of some of my ceramic work. If there is any interest in a particular item, please email me for details.
